Quotable Fridays: Gentle and Quiet Spirit

A Gentle and Quiet Spirit:

" 'Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning...but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.'(1 Peter 3:3,4)

We hear about "free" spirits, fiery spirits, fiercely independent spirits, fighting spirits, proud spirits, revolutionary spirits, and just plain "spiritedness" paraded as the essential virtues for the ideal woman.  Our culture views a woman with a gentle and quiet spirit as a pushover.

Psalm 37:11 promises, "But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. The wicked plot against the just, and gnashes upon him with his teeth. The Lord shall laugh at him: for he sees that his day is coming."

God laughs at the the militant feminists who mock the real woman for her meekness, promising that it will be the descendants of His meek servants who will inherit the earth. "The Lord lifts up the meek: he casts the wicked down to the ground." (Psalm 147:6)

A gentle and quiet spirit is not only imperishable; it is precious in the sight of God. It's also one of the hardest qualities to cultivate. Far from a sign of weakness, a gentle and quiet spirit is the sign of a woman who is strong in faith, mind and character."
                    - So Much More (chapter 7)

The first time I read this it was very convicting. I had to take a step back and sort of let it register in my brain. I never realized how much I needed to work on this area. Geez! Gentle and quiet..... lets just say that's not my best area... But It doesn't mean that I have to always be silent or dull, it just simply means to be humble, thankful, loving, and joyful. And really, why shouldn't we be humble, thankful, loving and joyful? God loves us, the one who created everything, and no matter what's going on in life, that should be enough, because its only in him we find true joy.

DIY Chalk Board

Ok so maybe not a craft every week... but you get the idea! This next craft, I've been wanting to do for a while now. Its a DIY chalk board made from a mirror! This craft cost me about a total of $4, because all I had to pay for was the paint.
All I used for this was an old mirror I already had, and I bought spray-chalkboard paint.

Spray the Chalk board paint on the mirror (I did two coats), let dry, and Voila! Hang it on your wall and you have your very own chalk board!
