Febuary's Project of the Month

Ok, so my project I'm going to show you how to make this! I don't really know what to call it, but it's a canvas with song lyrics on it. What I like about it is that it's fairly cheap to make and you usually have all of the things already around the house, it also is a good wall accent. So, here we go!

You'll need Paint (I used three colors, two for the words and one for the boarder. I used blue, and green for the words and a dark purple for the boarder. Try to use a dark color for the boarder, that way your words will look brighter. Be creative and use whatever colors you want!), Sheet music (about four sheets), Modge Podge, scissors, glitter (you want glitter that will match the boarder paint you chose), and last but not least you need an 11x13 size canvas. You can use whatever size canvas, just make sure its large enough to fit all your words on.

Take your sheet music and cut all the white edges off (if any).

Place your music sheets on the canvas, lining up the lines on the music sheets together to make it look like one big piece of music. (this can be very difficult, but you'll only worry about if you are a perfectionist like me. Also, you will be painting words on it so it won't be very noticeable) Next, glue it down to the canvas, make sure it is glued down very securely otherwise it will leave air bubbles when you modge podge it. Also make sure the sides of the paper get glued down to the side of the canvas.

It should look like this. Now pick out the lyrics of your favorite song, or a phrase or whatever. Next take your pencil and draw you phrase. I did mine free handedly, and with different fonts to make it look diverse. If you have stencils then go ahead and use those, because stencils make it look neater.

Next, gather all your paint supplies and color in the words with the paint., I had to do two or three coats so that the sheet music wouldn't show through.

Next, I got the purple and made a boarder all around the words on the edge of the canvas. I painted it in a circular motion. Also make sure you painted the sides of the canvas (over the sheet music). While the paint is wet take the glitter and sprinkle it on the boarder.

Next get some scrap booking accents or cut flowers out of construction paper and glue them in different places all over the project.

Now you're going to need the Modge Podge. I got the Puzzle Saver and that seemed to work good.
After the paint has dried, take the modge podge and squirt some into a small bowl. You'll also need a paint brush, next dip your paint brush into it and "paint" the whole canvas. It will go on white but don't worry, as it dries it will turn clear. Make sure you paint the whole thing, on the sides and everything. Do this twice. Let it dry before painting on the next coat. This will take 3-4 hours. (I let mine dry over night.)

Here's the finished project! I hope you have fun making this.
