New Blog

Hi guys!
So I decided to make a different blog. The content is still the same but I've changed everything else as far as the layout, the web address and the name of the blog. Blogger was starting to become to complicated for me to figure out with putting posts into pages, and adding different things to it, hence I've changed to WordPress. I find this layout to be more of what I wanted. My new name for this blog is "Life As A Bibliophile".   The web address is lifeasabibliophile.wordpress.com and I will be posting on this website from now on. I hope you like this one as much as I do, so please check it out!

Fried Apple Rings

In case you're wondering, which I'm positive you are, these are Fried Apple Rings. And yes,  they taste AMAZING. The name pretty much says it all, but it's basically a small deep fried, apple pie, dipped in sugar, need I say more? I found the recipe on pinterest a while back, and I've wanted to make them ever since.  The oringinal recipe wasn't very hard but  I went and modified it a little bit, so here's my version.

Ingredients:

4 Large Apples
2 Cups of Flour
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
4 Tablespoons of Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/4 Teaspoon of Cinnamon
1 Large egg
1 Cup Buttermilk (This actually turned out to be way too much buttermilk, But I couldn't find a way to make it smaller because of the Egg to buttermilk ratio)
Oil for Frying- I used cocnut oil because we were out of vegatable oil, plus it's healthier. But who is really going to be concerned about being healthy when we are talking about deep fried, sugary, goodness? ;)
You will also need additional Cinnamon and sugar for the topping.

Instuctions:

1. Start off by cutting the apples into slices and then cutting out the middle.

2. Next mix up the Flour, Baking Powder, Sugar, Salt, and Cinnamon in one bowl, and then the egg and buttermilk in another.
3. By this point you'll want to start heating up the oil.
4. While the oil is heating up, start coating some of the apple rings in the egg mixture and then the flour mixture.

5. Once the oil is heated to a good temperature, start putting the flour-coated apple rings into the oil.
6. Now you should start mixing together the extra cinnamon and sugar.
7. Once the rings in the oil are brown on one side flip over for the other side.

8. When the rings are brown on both sides, take out of oil and let drain on a plate of paper towels.
9. While they are still hot, dip in cinnamon and sugar and coat the whole ring.
10. Repeat until all the rings are fried.
11.Now this is the most important step of all! Make sure you actually get to eat one, this step is so very important and my personal favorite.

My famly thought they were so good that they were gone in no time. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my family and I did!

I'm Back!!

Hello Everyone!

Well it has been 3...5...7...9 months since my last post. Wow! I'm so sorry for my long silence, I'm going to try to update more regularly and I hope I will be sucsessful. This past year has been quite busy, so to catch y'all up, here's an overview of what we've done this past year:

On April 22nd, I was blessed with a new baby sister!

                                                                Valerie Jane Guillory

An updated Picture:)

Yes I know, she's a cutie.  The funny thing about having another little one in the house is that it's hard to remember what life was like before they were here, because it feels as if they were always here.  When Jane was born my aunt came down from Arkansas to see her, and while she was down we made plans for half of us to go up and spend two weeks with her in June. So June 1st, we met my aunt about half way, and Grace, Lily, and I went up until June 14th. We had a blast!

Lily on a bridge looking over a little pond. (which was really gross btw)

Me feeding the geese. It was kind of scary actually
because they were mean. The little boy behind
was super cute and thought it was funny when the geese
tried to bite my hand off, haha!

Grace was fearless.

Grace, Aunt Carmen, and Lily

Grace with her awesome monkey bar
skills, which she learned in Costa Rica.

Grace doing...er...I'm actually not sure what Grace was doing here, haha!

While my Aunt went to work during the week, we stayed home and tried to busy ourselves. One day my aunt gave us the idea to decorate some cardboard boxes she had laying around, so we took those out and some scrapbook stuff and they had at it.

We made a mess.

Lily wanted to make her box a car.

The Finished Project

We also had fun blowing bubbles!

At the end of the day, we would wind down with a game of  Skip-Bo, which I learned how to play while I was there and (not to sound conceited) but smoked everyone in. I blame it on beginner's luck  :-)

On June 11th, My mom and all of the other kids drove up there to pick us up and drop Sydney, Luke, and Faith off for two more weeks. We (everyone but Sydney, Luke, and Faith) stayed three more days and left on the following Saturday. While we were there I had the priveledge of watching Sydney and my cousin beat each other with plastic tennis rackets. (Playing, of course)

After we got back home, I did a couple of crafts, practiced music, read, and mostly just relaxed for the next two weeks.

The Divergent Trilogy

I just recently finished the Divergent Trilogy, and definitly reccomend reading them. Not only are they action packed, but the author is a Christian so she pulls out a lot of good points if you can spot them.

For the Fourth of July, we went to my uncle's house for our annual family get together, complete with Bar-b-que and a big waterslide!

Shiloh
The Kids loved the waterslide, the only time they got off was to eat, and when I tore it, but more on that later:)
Grace and Lily

Shiloh didn't like the big waterslide so she
stayed in the little pool.

She did, however, like the food!

Sydney also had a blast!

Faith<3

Sydney and a cousin playing football.
This is the new waterslide, the one I wasn't "allowed" to get on, haha! Here is how I tore the first: Sydney went down the slide first, and we heard what we thought was just Sydney hitting the side of the slide, until the air started going down a little. So we think she put a hole in the wall siding of the slide. Then i went right after her, and when I went down, one of my legs slid into the hole, and since I had so much momentum, I just kept going and ripped the stiching all of what was about six feet of the slide. It was quite an experience, haha! We ended up calling the company that the slide was from and getting a new on, so all was well :-)

The new slide

Visisting with the family.

Overall we've had a pretty good summer, and the best part, is that it isn't over quite yet:)

Quotable Fridays: Gentle and Quiet Spirit

A Gentle and Quiet Spirit:

" 'Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning...but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.'(1 Peter 3:3,4)

We hear about "free" spirits, fiery spirits, fiercely independent spirits, fighting spirits, proud spirits, revolutionary spirits, and just plain "spiritedness" paraded as the essential virtues for the ideal woman.  Our culture views a woman with a gentle and quiet spirit as a pushover.

Psalm 37:11 promises, "But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. The wicked plot against the just, and gnashes upon him with his teeth. The Lord shall laugh at him: for he sees that his day is coming."

God laughs at the the militant feminists who mock the real woman for her meekness, promising that it will be the descendants of His meek servants who will inherit the earth. "The Lord lifts up the meek: he casts the wicked down to the ground." (Psalm 147:6)

A gentle and quiet spirit is not only imperishable; it is precious in the sight of God. It's also one of the hardest qualities to cultivate. Far from a sign of weakness, a gentle and quiet spirit is the sign of a woman who is strong in faith, mind and character."
                    - So Much More (chapter 7)

The first time I read this it was very convicting. I had to take a step back and sort of let it register in my brain. I never realized how much I needed to work on this area. Geez! Gentle and quiet..... lets just say that's not my best area... But It doesn't mean that I have to always be silent or dull, it just simply means to be humble, thankful, loving, and joyful. And really, why shouldn't we be humble, thankful, loving and joyful? God loves us, the one who created everything, and no matter what's going on in life, that should be enough, because its only in him we find true joy.

DIY Chalk Board

Ok so maybe not a craft every week... but you get the idea! This next craft, I've been wanting to do for a while now. Its a DIY chalk board made from a mirror! This craft cost me about a total of $4, because all I had to pay for was the paint.
All I used for this was an old mirror I already had, and I bought spray-chalkboard paint.

Spray the Chalk board paint on the mirror (I did two coats), let dry, and Voila! Hang it on your wall and you have your very own chalk board!

Week 2: Fried Pickles

Yes I know, I know.....week 2 is late! This isn't a very good start to my year, but I will try harder. ;) That being said lets get started!

This week I made fried pickles..... Now I know what you're thinking, "Who comes up with this stuff?" I honestly don't know. When I first heard about them I didn't think they would be good at all, but then I ate one. I was wrong, fried pickles are pretty good! You should try them...so here's the recipe:)

 Ingredients:
        A jar of Pickles (obviously)

Chicken Fry

(sorry the picture is sideways, couldn't figure out how to edit it, oops!)

  Eggs
  Milk
Cooking oil ( I used Grapeseed, but vegetable is fine)

    Directions:
Wisk the eggs and milk together.

Next dry the pickles off. Yes you heard that right, dry them off with a paper towel:D

Next dip the pickles into the egg mixture, making sure they're fully covered. Do the same with the Chicken fry mix.

Last but not least, heat the oil in a frying pan and drop the covered pickles in!

They are done once they float to the top and they start browning. Once they are done take them out of the oil and put them on a plate covered with paper towels so the excess oil can drain off.

I like to dip them in Ranch, they taste really good! So go ahead and dig in!
